Art Sampler Summer Camp (Ages 5-7) @ The Columbus Museum

Clay? Check.  Paint?  Check.  Fabric? Yarn?  Check!  During this exploratory camp, participants will learn about the many ways that we can create art.  Sculptures, paintings, collages, and self-portraits will be just a few of the many projects we will experience throughout the week.  Each day, campers will discover new techniques while focusing on the joy of art.  This camp is perfect for beginners or for campers who want to learn about a variety of ways to make art.

Fantastic Fridays – African Folktales @ The Columbus Museum

Join two storytellers, Akili and Jabari, as they share stories that celebrate the vastness of the African landscape.  Audience interaction abounds as these skilled performers bring to life Anansi, pourquoi, and trickster tales.  Sing-alongs, stories, and humor help celebrate work, cultures, language, and oral tradition in this inventive and high energy production of Bright Star Theater.

Are you crazy about color? If you love colors, then this camp is just for you! Our color explorers will make discoveries about primary and secondary colors, experiment with paint mixing, and more! Color creators will learn about how different artists take inspiration from color, participate in story time, and create their own museum masterpieces!

Passionate About Painting Summer Camp (Ages 5-7) @ The Columbus Museum
Jun 25 @ 1:00 pm – Jun 29 @ 9:00 pm

Grab your brushes, prepare your palette, and paint!  In this camp, students will learn about different mediums, including acrylic, watercolor and tempera.  Campers will explore the Museum and gain inspiration from artists in the Museum’s permanent collection as well as explore the different ways that cultures from around the globe use paint.  Our young artists will leave camp with a variety of new art making skills and a passion for painting!

Fantastic Fridays – Mission Space: Rescue Rendezvous @ The Columbus Museum
Jun 29 @ 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm

While reporting live, our science kid’s reporter, Kat, gets trapped on a space ship bound for outer regions of our galaxy!  Audience volunteers must quickly form Kat’s Mission Control Rescue Team and use math, logic, music, and gaming to get her back.  Our kids’ Mission Control Rescue Team must also solve mathematical equations to unravel celestial musical messages that give clues to rescue Kat.

Art Passport Summer Camp (Ages 11-13) @ The Columbus Museum

Travel with us as we explore creativity around the world! Your camper will gain inspiration from historic artwork and artists and produce hand-crafted materials. Campers will explore different regions throughout the week making unique stops in the galleries learning about artists who were born in different countries, traveled to distant places, or use techniques that first developed in other places.

Fun with Fiber Summer Camp (Ages 8-10) @ The Columbus Museum
Jul 16 @ 1:00 pm – Jul 20 @ 9:00 pm

Explore the museum this week as we discover the fascinating history of fiber in the arts! From creating your own currency from scratch to making woven works with straw looms, this camp will help you learn the history and practices used in dying techniques in multiple cultures. Each camper will also make their own landscape work using felt. Students will learn about the process for making their own tie-dye shirts, break down the fiber in leaves to make artistic skeletons, and create their own paper from scratch using a mix of cotton and pulp. Join us and find out how tightly interwoven the history of fiber and art are!

Join us for a program full of sprightly dance turns and haunting airs as we experience a bit of the history, culture and character of Ireland through song and dance with the band Celtic Fire!  Audience participants will be able to join the band onstage as the program comes to a conclusion.
